I learnt early on as a teacher that 'Those who specialize learn more and more, about less and less' and i have always strived to build up a broad base of knowledge and experience in order to teach more effectively and not to get focussed too much in one area of knowledge; ultimately trying to build a synthesis of knowledge by researching the history and archaeology of the world, past and present day. This has taken over 20 years now, starting with learning about Socrates and his theories how 'being smart enough to know how very little we know' is the beginning of all teaching and education. I try to emulate this in my teaching with the 'Socratic' method of discussion or dialectic symposium.

About Tutor

I have been an archaeologist, herpetologist, geographer, museum curator, high school teacher, nature reserve warden and many more jobs over the years giving me a huge range of experiences, skills and knowledge. A generalist rather than a specialist, when teaching at schools i taught all the humanities subjects including philosophy and ethics; as well as classics or archaeology. My range of experiences and specialisms over the years has made me a all around good teacher with range of teaching skills and experience. I have taught in some of the top schools in the country where they practice two hours of meditation at day to some of the most challenging schools in the country. This has given me great insight into what works as a teacher and what doesn't, using approaches like the Roshenshine method to increase the attention of the pupils using retrieval practices and teaching exercises.
